Mich beschäftigt in der stillen Zeit das Problem eines Bekannten, der am Sprung ins Jahr 2020 noch alte ZIP-Disketten ausgegraben hat, und deren Inhalt nun sichern möchte. Zu diesem Zweck steht mir ein externes Iomega ZIP-100-Laufwerk mit LPT-Port zur Verfügung. Glücklicherweise habe ich auch noch einen alten PC gefunden, der über einen LPT-Port verfügt, somit habe ich die Wahl, das Laufwerk über LPT oder über ein LPT<->USB-Adapter-Kabel anzuschließen.
Nach ausführlicher Recherche habe ich folgendes herausgefunden:
- Die Unterstützung über USB ist in Linux eher fragwürdig - der Weg über den LPT-Port ist somit vielversprechender
- Um das Laufwerk zu verwenden, braucht man "SCSI-Support", "SCSI-Disk-Support" und das Modul "ppa" (aus diesem Grund poste ich auch hier und nicht im Hardwarefragen-Subforum)

Leider konnte ich auch damit aber nur einen Teilerfolg feiern. Das benötigte PPA-Modul scheint nicht vollständig zu laden und ich bekomme folgende Fehlermeldung:

Ist das PPA-Modul kaputt?
Ist es (trotzdem) einsetzbar?
Was hab ich noch für Optionen?
Wäre es einfacher, auf einen älteren (2.4er?)-Kernel zu wechseln (ich glaube damals waren die IOMEGA-Treiber per Default im Kernel aktiviert)? Wenn ja, wie stell ich das am besten an? Auf einen alten Release zurückgreifen? Welcher wäre das?
