Kann startX nicht starten

Hab jetzt das erste mal Miniwoody instaliert und jetzt hab ich das Problem,dass ich StartX nicht starten kann.Wenn ich mich in Debian einloge und startx eingebe,kommt immer eine Fehlermeldung.

Nun bin ich ja ein Newbe,aber wie kommt er auf (WW) ATI: PCI/AGP [b]Mach64 in slot 1:0:0 could not be detected!

Ich habe eine Radeon8500LE Grafikkarte

Hab schon probiert dpkt-reconfigure-xfree86 auszuführen,aber irgendwie ging das auch nicht.
Weis jemand was ich machen könnte?

p.s.mit Knoppix läuft alles ohne Probleme.

Ich hoffe ihr könnt mir helfen.

In dem Log steht ja auch eine Radeon...warum er da noch eine Mach64 sucht, kann vielleicht am ATI-Treiber liegen.

Poste doch mal deine /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 Datei , vielleicht gibts dort
noch einen falschen Eintrag.

Ansonte verzichte mal auf den Framebuffer und benutze moderate Einstellungen für die Auflösung und Farbtiefe. MS Windows startet schließlich auch in standard VGA.

Eine recht ordentliche Möglichkeit scheint es ja zu sein,einfach Knoppix zu starten und die /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 die man dann erhällt mit der von Debian auszutauschen.
Nun stellt sich mir nur noch die Frage,wie ich unter Knoppix die Rechte dazu bekomme um die /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 von Knoppix in den etc/x11 Ordner von Debian kopieren zu können.

Terminal unter Knoppix öffnen, "sudo bash" machen, dann hast Du eine root Shell. Debian Patition read-write mounten und einfach hinkopieren.

Die Details musst Du selbst herausfinden (man mount, man cp)

Hab jetzt auf die / hda einen rechtsklick gemacht und unter "Berechtigung" bei "schreiben" alle Hacken gesetzt um die so einzustellen,dass ich die Datei kopieren kann um die Datei dann in der sudo bash Konsole per cp /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 /mnt/hda8/etc/X11 kopieren zu können.
Nach dieser eingabe kommt die Frage ob ich die vorhandene Datei überschreiben und mich über den Modus 0466 hiwegsetzen will.Nachdem ich das per "Ja" bestätige,kommt aber mal wieder die gute allte Meldung ,dass das Dateosystem nur lesbar ist

Naja dann muss ich es eben irgendwie weiterprobieren

mount -o remount,rw /dev/hda1

Natürlich muss da statt hda1 die passende Partition bei Dir stehen, danach ist die Pladde RW gemountet. Steht aber AFAIR auch in der Knoppix Anleitung auf der CD, wie man eine Platte in den read-write Modus bekommt...

Hab das so eingegeben und hda1 durch hda8(meine Debian "/" Partition ersetzt und bekomme die Meldung "mount: /mnt/hda8 ist noch nicht eingehängt oder es wurden ungültige Optionen angegeben.
vielleicht hast du bei dem guten Wetter ja eine ebenso gute Laune und lässt dich zu einem weiteren Tipp hinreißen.

Normalerweise sollte Knoppix die schon gemountet haben. Versuch 'mal zuerst einen Doppelklick auf das Icon auf dem Desktop zu machen (für Deine Platte), damit Knoppix die auch wirklich mountet. Danach sollte der Befehl funktionieren...

Alternativ:

mkdir /mnt/linux
mount -t ext2 /dev/hda8 /mnt/linux

Danach ist die Platte unter /mnt/linux zu finden.
